Industry meets Makers & Tech Experts
A 4-day FUTURE TECH CO-CREATION session
+++
In 2019, in cooperation with the IV Lower Austria, Smartup St. Pölten, the Zukunftsakademie Mostviertel, DigitalCity.Wien and other partners, we organised our first 4-day Future Tech Bootcamp on IoT, AI and blockchain with and at the UAS St. Pölten, which went so well that we would like to expand it further this year in the course of the Digital Makers Hub.
From June 29th till July 2nd, 2020, representatives of companies, organisations and public authorities will meet for the second time with makers, experts and technology partners to work together on practical challenges (so-called "briefings" / see below) in a 4-day co-creation session according to the hop-on-hop-off principle. With the help of completely new approaches and future technologies, innovative solutions are to be developed, which ideally can be introduced promptly afterwards.
Due to COVID-19 the bootcamp will this time be moved to a large extent into virtual space, which has the advantage that the circle of participants can be extended to a larger geographical region, because long travel times and overnight costs are eliminated and nothing stands in the way of participation from your "own living room" according to individual temporal feasibility.
In concrete terms, this means that we communicate with each other via the video conference tool zoom and the online chat platform slack and make the technologies as web-based as possible. In addition, we have cooperations with local maker and hacker spaces in some locations, which offer participants machines, co-working rooms and support and in some cases also serve as pick-up locations for hardware components provided (see overview below).
As some non-German speaking participants will be attending the boot camp, we will keep all written communication in English. During the presentations, pitch and brainstorming sessions we will switch back and forth between German and English depending on language skills and team composition.

The process
That's the way it's supposed to work!
ProgramME
duration: 29.6. until 2.7.2020
+++
We know that hardly anyone can really participate in a program of this kind for 4 days at a time and that every concept of life brings with it different requirements and freedom. We have therefore tried to arrange the process according to the hop-on-hop-off principle. The pink marked program points are fixed points where you can easily join the group. In the yellow-marked periods we, our briefing partners and experts are available in chat rooms to answer questions, in order to support possible lateral entries and individual work rhythms as best as possible.

The 4 days at a glance
DAY 1
On June 29th we start with a pitching and matchmaking session. In the morning our briefing, technology and space partners will present their challenges and available tools, components, materials and machines and answer first questions. In the afternoon, there will be an opportunity to get to know each other, develop plans and ideas for the coming days and form groups.
DAY 2 + 3
On June 30 and July 1st we will focus fully on the development work. In the morning and early afternoon we hold bootup and reboot meetings where participants can inform each other about progress and help each other. In the evening there is time for a chill-out beer together. During the rest of the time you can work cooperatively around the clock according to your individual feasibility and preferences.
DAY 4
On July 2nd the focus will be on the presentation of the generated results and the organisation of first project setup coaching sessions, in which experts will jointly consider how the generated solutions could be efficiently and realistically put on the road after the Bootcamp according to the respective possibilities and interests of the participants - what is still needed and which next steps would be useful.
Briefing Partners, topics & Tech Stack
These challenges can be worked on
+++
The Industry meets Makers programme runs approx. for six months. The Virtual Future Tech Bootcamp is a 4-day special event format within the framework of this half-year programme. The briefing partners who contribute topics are both companies and organizations that participate in our main six-month programme, as well as other partners who participate with additional tasks specifically tailored to the Bootcamp. Accordingly, the starting position is a little different in some places. Some have already done some preliminary work with teams and are now using the Bootcamp to go further into depth with clever minds at certain points. Others are still standing at zero on the first day of the Bootcamp and are open for any kind of thinking.
+++
Infineon and Thales: IoT on Train featuring the Sense2GoL radar sensor
Infineon and Thales participate in this year’s main program with two different briefing topics. Infineon’s briefing topic is about "sensing the world with radar" and Thales’ briefing topic about "innovative and secure IoT solutions for railway infrastructure".
Nevertheless, the two teams have joined forces and have also developed a joint challenge on "IoT on train featuring the Sense2GoL radar sensor" especially for the Bootcamp.
For these, the two teams have already prepared a special demo train installation including the above technology stack in the office of Infineon in Linz, which can be navigated remotely.
All further details on the topic as well as first train impressions can be found on the briefing page and will be presented and explained during the Bootcamp by the responsible experts, who will join in the process from Vienna, Linz, Munich and India.
Martin Gschwandtner, Infineon (Linz)
Rafael Gattringer, Infineon (Vienna)
Julian Eder, Infineon (Munich)
Arkajyoti Chatterjee, Infineon (India)
Mathias Geike, Infineon (Munich)
Peter Tummeltshammer, Thales Austria (Vienna)
Salome Christiani, Thales Austria (Vienna)
Martin Lampel, Thales Austria (Vienna)
Like last year, the Microtronics team is on board as one of our main briefing partners in the six-month #IMM2020 programme with the topic "practical IoT proof of concepts with our IoT suite" as well as a technology partner and expert at our Bootcamp.
Above you can see the technology stack, which will be available during the Bootcamp (the graphic can be enlarged by clicking on it) and below you can see the team, which will support you in word and deed during the 4 days and help you to develop new solutions.
Martin Buber, Microtronics
Sabrina Waldbauer, Microtronics
Josef Posch, Microtronics
Manuel Franz Stummer, Microtronics
The ZKW Group is also one of our main briefing partners, participating in both our six-month #IMM2020 programme and the Future Tech Booptcamp with the topic "Light Communication Design".
It is foreseeable that the role of light in road traffic will change completely with increasing driving autonomy.
As one of the leading manufacturers of premium lighting systems and electronics, the ZKW Group is therefore already looking for innovative thought leaders and designers who are keen to come up with new concepts for the future use of light, as well as software developers who can implement light animation displays.
Yvonne, Philipp, Michael and Christian will be present during the 4 days to present the topic to you more in detail, to answer your questions and to support you with their know-how in the development of creative new concepts.
More information on the topic can be found on the briefing page.
TELE Haase also takes part in this round as main briefing partner with the topic "The company of the future - energy self-sufficient and smart. Tomorrow even greener!" and has already developed an exciting new solution approach with a group of experts.
Building on this, the TELE team would now like to use the Bootcamp above all to delve deeper into the subject together with you at three points. Specifically, this will involve the topics of data collection, the development of hypotheses on energy-saving measures, as well as data analysis and data visualization.
You can see the technology stack that has been prepared for the Bootcamp above (the graphic can be enlarged by clicking on it) and all further details on the Bootcamp briefing topic here: "The company of the Future - energy saving and data".
At the Bootcamp itself, Andreas and Markus from TELE will be present to give you valuable insights into the company and to brainstorm with you. In addition, Simon from Nymea will be happy to answer your questions about the technical part of the solution developed so far, which also relies on inverter technology from Fronius, which offers open interfaces.
Andreas Bruckmüller, TELE Haase
Markus Stelzmann, TELE Haase
Simon Seres, Nymea
Gerhard Sattler, TELE Haase
Dr. Claudia Luger-Bazinger, Salzburg Research
Dr. Veronika Hornung-Prähauser, Salzburg Research
Salzburg Research is participating in this round with a very exciting bootcamp briefing on "new physical distancing tools for supporting coronavirus prevention behavior", looking for new ideas away from data collection apps that help to keep the safe distance.
Conceivable would be e.g. innovative smart textiles - solutions or other haptic small objects of everyday life, like intelligent key rings, lanyards and co.
Salzburg Research organises appropriate kits for this purpose in advance and is also happy to make the in-house Research Maker Space available for joint development work.
Business Upper Austria (BizUp for short) is an Upper Austrian location agency and one of our most important network partners in this region.
As part of the Bootcamp, the unit ... is now for the first time organizing its own briefing, which will focus on the topic "visualization of location factors through virtual reality".
Tanja, Dan, Klaus and Michael will be present at the Bootcamp to brainstorm with you and answer detailed questions.
Dr. Tanja Spennlingwimmer, Business Upper Austria
Dan Dutescu, Business Upper Austria
Klaus Madlmair, Business Upper Austria
Michael Lettner, Business Upper Austria
Crisis expert Herbert Saurugg contributed a briefing on "Emergency communication systems for decentralized self-organization in case of crisis" through his association, the Austrian Society for Crisis Prevention. He is participating with this briefing topic in the six-month #IMM2020 programme as well as in the Virtual Future Tech Bootcamp.
In the past 1,5 months, a very committed team of makers has already developed a first approach to a solution, which will be presented by Ferdinand and Mario on behalf of the team members and is based on the above mentioned technology stack. During the Bootcamp, you can either work on its further development or, alternatively, think and do things completely differently.
Herbert Saurugg, GsKV
Ferdinand Rubel, Underground Maker
Mario Rieder, Mitglied des Entwickler-Teams

The next steps coaching on day 4
This year we would like to expand the support this year, especially through coaching offers from industrialization professionals, funding agencies, start-up and financing consultancies, in order to give the concepts, cooperations, prototypes and projects that are developed in the course of the Bootcamp the greatest possible chance of being realized afterwards, if they have the potential to do so and if the participants are interested in a joint introduction. The experts will be present at the final result presentations in the morning of the 4th day and will support you – if you are interested and it’s needed – in the afternoon with their know-how and first ideas about possible existing funding / financing possibilities, network contacts and useful next steps in terms of implementation. The exact composition of the expert panel is still under development.
