Briefing 2020
The Challenge
Imagine a world where technology is unobtrusive and seamlessly integrated into our lives. Where intentional/deliberate communication between people and devices is no longer necessary. In this world, there is no need to push buttons or issue commands in order to activate devices, because technology is capable of interpreting implicit intentions and context. This enhances the user experience and makes it more natural – it almost seems like the devices around us intuitively understand what we want them to do.
At Infineon, this future is already becoming reality. We develop sensor solutions that enable simple and effortless user interactions with all kinds of smart devices. Bridging the gap between the real and digital worlds, our technology is developed to make life easier, safer, greener and more efficient. Our intuitive sensing solutions are at the very core of this mission. Reflecting our belief that the essential value of sensor technology lies in making our lives more convenient through seamless, natural interactions between people and sensing devices, our aim is to leave you free to focus on what really matters in life.
As a market leader in sensing, Infineon develops radar sensors to sense our environment in a seamless way.
Your Mission
Develop an innovative radar application, that demonstrates a novel use case and share it with the global community.
Choose one of two radar tracks, that matches your skills:
Basic Radar Track
Use our 24 GHz radar technology to build a basic demonstrator. Start at Infineon's MakeRADAR initiative.
Essential team skills
C (for ARM microcontroller)
or Python (for Raspberry)
Application ideas
UAV Soft Landing
Robotic or UAV Collision Avoidance
Professional Radar Track
Use our 60 GHz radar technology to build a professional demonstrator.
Essential team skills
C (for ARM microcontroller)
Basic experience in signal processing
Advanced experience in machine learning or signal processing
Application ideas
Gesture control (with custom gestures)
Challenge Flow
From all applications during the registration phase, the best (max. 10) will be selected and supported with hardware plus expert know-how of Infineon experts. Latter is available via email, forum discussions and during workshops.
As a result of the challenge a functional prototype is highly desirable and appreciated. However, foundational work, like porting the supporting libraries to a new platform is equally valued. Depending on the result the project could be continued as a Master Thesis, PhD topic or even a new internal project. For very promising start-ups an admission Infineon's start-up program is possible.
Application
Please apply to be part of Infineon's Industry meets Makers track, as hardware and technical support is exclusive. Your application should consist of your name, contact data, your skill track record (like your GitHub repository), and an overview of your concept (one A4 page). If you don't have an idea yet, you can still decide at the start of Industry meets Makers what to do exactly. However great and realistic concepts in advance will be preferred.
