Briefing 2023
The initial situation
In times of rising energy prices and the attempt by society as a whole to switch to renewable energies as quickly as possible in order to protect our environment, many home builders and commercial enterprises are opting to install their own photovoltaic system. Every photovoltaic system installation comes with a paid app that displays the energy balance. Every new electricity meter is equipped with the ModBus protocol, which transmits the data to the electricity provider and is then displayed on the user's app for a final fee. In other words, each owner actually pays for his own data. We would like to counteract this situation.
Our challenge
We invite the IMM community, with the support of the industry experts of the start-up Meshmakers.io and other partner companies, to produce a usable prototype that implements the evaluation of the in-house electricity meters on an open source basis and in this way can be used free of charge and autonomously by every photovoltaic system owner in the future.
In addition, we would also like to find out with you how an existing building can be relieved of its energy burden by installing a photovoltaic system.
For the development of the solution, we provide a great Living Lab environment in the commercial building of the GEMINI Startup Base, where you can tinker, develop and programme to your heart's content around the clock on 6000 m².
The GEMINI Startup Base is equipped with many machines, tools and infrastructure on an industrial level, whose data can also be used for exciting follow-up projects on a longer-term basis after completion of the #IMM2023 Challenge. Living Labs hold huge amounts of data and are therefore a veritable land of milk and honey for resourceful data analysts. Perhaps one of you has a concrete idea on how to exploit untapped potential for innovation, science, the real economy or even the general population by analysing existing data.
