Briefing 2021

The Challenge

The SARS-CoV-2 virus has shaken the global and local community. Millions of people have died or lost their jobs. The impact on mental health problems and Long Covid cannot yet be assessed. Although vaccination programs have begun, many countries will lag behind due to lack of financial resources. In addition, new virus variants may emerge.

Technology can be an important partner in reducing the impact of this global crisis. Infineon Technologies is a global leader in semiconductor solutions that can play a significant role in reducing the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The recent acquisition of Cypress Semiconductor has significantly strengthened Infineon's portfolio.

It's time to disrupt the spread of the virus. #disruptCOVID

Your Mission

Challenge Flow

From all applications during the registration phase, the best will be selected and supported with hardware plus expert know-how of technical experts. Latter is available via email, forum discussions and during workshops.

As a result of the challenge, a working prototype is highly desirable and appreciated. However, foundational work, such as porting the supporting libraries to a new platform, is also appreciated. Depending on the outcome, the project can be continued as a bachelor's or master's thesis, as a doctoral thesis, or even as a collaborative project. For very promising start-ups, admission to the Infineon Start-up Program Inno.Wafer is possible.

Partner MCI Innsbruck

This track is significantly supported by Infineon's partner MCI Innsbruck. The university of applied sciences offers a bachelor's and a master's degree program in mechatronics & smart technologies.

Briefing pitch @ #IMM2021 online kick-off from Günther Wellenzohn and Rafael Gattringer (Infineon) as well as Ronald Stärz (MCI) on April 15th, 2021.

Application

Please apply to be part of Infineon's Industry meets Makers track, as hardware and technical support are exclusive. Your application should consist of your name, contact details, skill track record (e.g. your GitHub repository) and an overview of your concept (one A4 page). If you don't have an idea yet, you can decide at the kick-off of Industry meets Makers what exactly you want to do. However, great and realistic concepts in advance are preferred. For 48+V applications, you will need a suitable working environment such as a lab and supervision or appropriate technical training.
