INDUSTRY MEETS MAKERS & TECH EXPERTS
A 4-DAY FUTURE TECH CO-CREATION SESSION
+++
From June 21st to June 24th we are organising the 3rd edition of our 4-day Future Tech Bootcamp. This is a special event format of Industry meets Makers, which in essence works like an intensive miniature model of the six-month main programme. Industrial companies present "briefings" (= challenges) and invite makers – freelance developers, hobbyists, students, start-ups and SMEs – to work with them on initial solutions within just 4 days. Technology partners, local maker space operators and experts support the teams during the process by providing the necessary infrastructure and in-depth know-how.
The bootcamp was held for the first time in 2019 at and with the UAS St. Pölten in analogue form and was successfully continued in a purely virtual version in the Covid-19-ridden year 2020 as part of the FFG-funded Digital Makers Hub programme. In 2021, the goal is now to combine decentrally organised analogue activities in local maker spaces (see map below) with a digital communication concept that enables collaboration and exchange between participants at the various locations with the help of live streaming and the use of video conferencing (Zoom) and a chat tool (IMM chat) in virtual space.
The main programme items will be held in 2 language versions (English and German) with the help of synchronous interpreters. In the local maker spaces and virtual breakout session rooms, the language spoken will be the one everyone understands.
This is the Zoom videoconference link that will take you to our virtual main stage and breakout session rooms for the 4 days.
You can already register in the chat tool that we will use for online communication during the bootcamp.
THE PROCESS
THAT'S THE WAY IT'S SUPPOSED TO WORK!
PROGRAMME
From June 21st to June 24th, 2021
+++
We know that hardly anyone can really participate in a program of this kind for 4 days at a time and that every concept of life brings with it different requirements and freedom. We have therefore tried to arrange the process according to the hop-on-hop-off principle.
The pink marked program points are fixed points where you can easily join the group. In the yellow marked periods we, our briefing partners and experts are available in chat and virtual breakout session rooms to answer questions, in order to support possible lateral entries and individual work rhythms as best as possible. In addition, for the first time in this round, there will also be small analogue activities, which we will organise at different locations in cooperation with our local network and space partners – as far as the current Covid 19 requirements allow by then (see the orange marked fields).
The green marked fields indicate events of IMM network partners that will be embedded in our future tech bootcamp programme and will also take place on our virtual Zoom main stage.
This schedule is based on CET/CEST (Vienna, Austria). Check your time difference!

In the morning and early afternoon we hold bootup and reboot meetings where participants can inform each other about progress and help each other. In the evening there is time for a chill-out beer together. During the rest of the time you can work cooperatively around the clock according to your individual feasibility and preferences.

DAY 4
On June 24th the focus will be on the presentation of the generated results and the organisation of first project setup coaching sessions, in which experts will jointly consider how the generated solutions could be efficiently and realistically put on the road after the Bootcamp according to the respective possibilities and interests of the participants – what is still needed and which next steps would be useful.

VIRTUAL ROOMS AND CHAT CHANNELS FOR THE BOOTCAMP
This year we will again use the Zoom video conferencing tool for our pitching, workshop and breakout sessions and a supplementary chat software for the ongoing written team communication.
+++
LOCAL MAKER SPACES participating in THE BOOTCAMP
We invite Maker Spaces, Innovation Labs and Factory Hubs to participate in the bootcamp with their experts and their community and to stream their local activities (making, workshops, expert talks, pitches, etc.) live from their location. The streamed programme content will be flexibly interconnected in the TV studio of the UAS St. Pölten and can thus be experienced live by all participants at all bootcamp locations at the same time.
More details about our current #IMM2021 future tech bootcamp space partners: Happy Lab (Vienna), Maker Austria (Vienna), Infineon Hub (Vienna), Factory Hub Vienna (Vienna), FH Wiener Neustadt Innovation Lab (pre-opening in Wiener Neustadt), Maker Space Carinthia (Klagenfurt), Tabakfabrik incl. GRAND GARAGE (Linz), Gemini Startup Base (Hallwang/Salzburg), MCI (Innsbruck) and NOI Techpark incl. NOI Maker Space (Bozen). More partners will follow soon… :)

Technology stack
Every year, we put a lot of effort into setting up a well thought-out techology stack planning in advance of the bootcamp so that everything the participating teams need to be able to work meaningfully on solving the challenges is really there during the bootcamp. This is the technology stack that has been determined so far. The stack will be added to step by step until the start of the event and the detailed planning will be more precise.
3d printing support on industry level (printers from EOS and SLM)

Tech Experts & maker coaches
Beside the contact persons who will provide advice and support to the participants on the part of our briefing partners, some tech experts from our IMM community will also take part in the bootcamp to support the teams with their know-how and tools. In addition, on the 4th day of the bootcamp, there will again be a follow-up coaching session with experts from the fields of financing, funding, business modelling, start-up and industrialisation to support the participants in setting up their project as future-proof as possible.
The members of this year's expert pool will be announced below step by step until the start of the bootcamp.
Participation opportunities
Do you want to be part of it? These are the roles you could play.
BRIEFING & TECHNOLOGY PARTNERS
As a company, it is possible to bring in a topic plus prizes, which will be worked on during the 4 days, and/or to provide technologies that are urgently needed for the solution of the tasks (hardware, software, materials, tools, etc.).
UNIVERSITIES, UAS & HTL
Universities, universities of applied sciences (FHs) and technical colleges (HTLs) can participate with their students and possibly even integrate the bootcamp into their study or school programme in the form of a project week (incl. ECTS credits) – as the UAS St. Pölten is already doing.
CREATIVE MAKERS & VISIONARIES
Anyone who wants to can become a maker and work with the experts and briefing partners to find solutions to the topics. The personal time investment can be flexibly adapted, as the programme is designed according to the hop-on-hop-off principle.
LOCAL NETWORK & SPACE PARTNERS
You can participate in the role of a local network and/or space partner who organises bootcamp activities in your region, promotes the event in the local network and/or provides necessary spaces and machines for the participants in the immediate area.
TECH EXPERTS & MAKER COACHES
You can participate as an expert and support the teams with your expertise while they work on the topics and/or help them afterwards to set up their project in such a way that it can be successfully implemented (keyword: financing, funding, start-ups, business modelling, industrialisation, etc.).
SPONSORS & SUPPORTERS
There is the option to support the bootcamp as a sponsor - with monetary means, prizes media performance, drinks, snacks, creative contributions to our Bootcamp care package, the provision of local streaming equipment, etc.
